Running the Gap 2009
Andrea and Hilerie both came up to run the gap last Saturday in Pocatello. Andrea ran the 1/2 marathon and Hilerie ran the 10k. I was really sad that I didn't get to run with Andy, but I think it was good for me to be the one cheering on the sidelines this time! It was kind of emotional for me and I admit it, I teared up a few times. (I realize this is something you probably won't understand unless you've done a race--so don't laugh!) It was a great day with perfect running weather and I'm so proud of my sisters and my friends that ran. (That means YOU Alysia Cook!!)

Sunrise out my back window before the race--the earlier the better (before it gets too hot!)
Andy at about the halfway point for her race
Andy and her cute family after the race
This is the sign I made for Colby to hold on the race course as we were cheering my sisters and friends along. I had to pay him! It made so many of the Runner Girls smile that it was worth the money I had to fork over! When you're running a long race, every ounce of motivation helps you along the way!
I was so proud of Andy. She smoked her last time and got a PR of 2:07:43. She was fast! Hilerie shaved more than 2 minutes off of her 10k time too and I'm so happy she is getting the running bug! I decided to dress up in my runner garb. I put "NEXT TIME" on one of my old race numbers and hobbled along in my boot! If all goes well, I should be able to start wearing shoes on both feet tomorrow then maybe start a slow jog in a few weeks. I'm going to be careful, because it would be so dumb to get an injury and have to have surgery again. It is so annoying that I can't do anything though!
This is my BFF Amy. She placed 2nd in her age division and got a new PR as well which was 1:42:26. She is amazing! BTW, she placed second last year too in this race. What a woman!
Smile Amy! I'm so grateful that you're my friend! Amy is such a good example for me and she always has the encouragement that I need.
Me and Andy being silly. She's the best.
Here's my friend John Taberna. We know each other mostly from the greenbelt in Blackfoot and from races here and there. I'm friends with his wife too, they are both awesome. John only runs one speed: FAST. His time this year was 1:20:06 and he was the overall winner of the 1/2 marathon. He is 48 years old--so impressive. I need to keep it up, so I can be like John.

Weren't you the first sister to start running? Good for you for being a great example, and good for Colby for being a good sport about the sign.
I totally get the crying on the sidelines thing...I love that about you! Maybe next year we will both be racing again..Your foot will be better and MAYBE Alexa will be sleeping all night! You are AWESOME! LOVED the sign Colby held for all those woman!
