Antelope Island August 2009

We were able to do a photo shoot last month with my friend Tina out on Antelope Island. I loved the results! As you can see, our kids are growing up! Colby will be ten in October and Jolie will be two. They are both wonderful! Here are some of my favorites...

Thank you Tina!

Colby's First Soccer Game

Colby had his very first soccer game today! His team WON 7-0. He had a great time and so did we. It was perfect weather and the kids were so excited to play. Colby has really been enjoying his practices and he is improving. I'm proud of him for trying something new and I'm looking forward to the next game!

Foot Update

The x-rays looked great yesterday. Everything is healing as it should. I can walk around the house now without my boot on, but I still have to wear it if I'll be walking around a lot. It is sore, but I haven't had much pain. When I hit the 6 week mark my Doctor said that I can lose the boot and do whatever I want. That includes running. It may be a slow jog for awhile--but at least I'll be able to exercise again!

Brock's Cake

I made this cake for my friend Debbie's little boy Brock. His birthday was on Monday and she wanted a white cake with strawberries. This was the result!

Running the Gap 2009

Andrea and Hilerie both came up to run the gap last Saturday in Pocatello. Andrea ran the 1/2 marathon and Hilerie ran the 10k. I was really sad that I didn't get to run with Andy, but I think it was good for me to be the one cheering on the sidelines this time! It was kind of emotional for me and I admit it, I teared up a few times. (I realize this is something you probably won't understand unless you've done a race--so don't laugh!) It was a great day with perfect running weather and I'm so proud of my sisters and my friends that ran. (That means YOU Alysia Cook!!)

Sunrise out my back window before the race--the earlier the better (before it gets too hot!)

Andy at about the halfway point for her race

Andy and her cute family after the race

This is the sign I made for Colby to hold on the race course as we were cheering my sisters and friends along. I had to pay him! It made so many of the Runner Girls smile that it was worth the money I had to fork over! When you're running a long race, every ounce of motivation helps you along the way!

I was so proud of Andy. She smoked her last time and got a PR of 2:07:43. She was fast! Hilerie shaved more than 2 minutes off of her 10k time too and I'm so happy she is getting the running bug! I decided to dress up in my runner garb. I put "NEXT TIME" on one of my old race numbers and hobbled along in my boot! If all goes well, I should be able to start wearing shoes on both feet tomorrow then maybe start a slow jog in a few weeks. I'm going to be careful, because it would be so dumb to get an injury and have to have surgery again. It is so annoying that I can't do anything though!

This is my BFF Amy. She placed 2nd in her age division and got a new PR as well which was 1:42:26. She is amazing! BTW, she placed second last year too in this race. What a woman!
Smile Amy! I'm so grateful that you're my friend! Amy is such a good example for me and she always has the encouragement that I need.

Me and Andy being silly. She's the best.

Here's my friend John Taberna. We know each other mostly from the greenbelt in Blackfoot and from races here and there. I'm friends with his wife too, they are both awesome. John only runs one speed: FAST. His time this year was 1:20:06 and he was the overall winner of the 1/2 marathon. He is 48 years old--so impressive. I need to keep it up, so I can be like John.

Fair Time

Where do you go for arm wrestling championsip contests, animal races, and fried twinkies? The fair is where! We went yesterday and even though we skipped the fried twinkie, we had a really good time. Hilerie rented a wheel chair for me and pushed me around. There was no way I could have walked around for 3 1/2 hours--so thank you Hilerie! I can walk with my boot on, but I'm slow and it gets sore, so I've been trying to be careful.

This was so hillbilly that I had to take a picture. Love the camo hat, the Korn t-shirt and the skoal mark in that guys pants--YIKES!

Here's Jolie at the fair, waiting for the animal races. She was so cute!
Colby too! He was in heaven. Colby's appetite has drastically increased in the last month. He had teriyaki chicken, pork and seeds with hot mustard, a cinnamon pull-apart with caramel, fresh bread with raspberry honey butter, a tiger ear, a frozen Thelma's Lemonade, and a caramel apple. We may have shared some of that with him. That's what I like about sharing--you don't feel QUITE as guilty about having a treat and you get to taste more than one thing!

These animal races were hillarious. If you go this week, check the schedule and take your kids. You'll laugh.

Green Monster--Again

After five days of Green Monster mania I can honestly say that my cravings for treats is gone! I am feeling better and the number on the scale has gone down. Because I can't exercise like I want to right now, I really need to get my eating in check and this has been a great jump start for me. Next Friday I am going to see my doctor to have x-rays done again on my foot and if all goes well I should be able to wear shoes again and get out of this clunky boot. I'm really praying that it is healing just as it should. If I'm back in normal shoes next week I'm going to ask if I can start riding a bike at least--so we'll see.

My friend Becca is the one that first introduced us to the green goodness and she posted a comment on my last entry about a site where you can get more ideas for green smoothies. Here it is: http://greenmonstermovement.com/ I clicked on the recipes link on the right hand side and read quite a few submissions. I think I'm going to try some of them next week. I've only added protein powder once, because I usually eat something small with protein in it 2 or 3 hours after I have the monster. I think I might like using almond breeze etc...

Today's green monster turned brown with the addition of about 1/2 cup of blueberries and blueberry yogurt instead of stawberry. You may not believe me but it was delicious. Lots of yummy things are brown right? Like chocolate!

The Green Monster

The quest for the perfect Green Monster started Monday...

This is the recipe for today's version:
2 cups packed fresh spinach
1 cup mixed frozen fruit (today ours had mango, peaches, strawberries and pineapple)
1/2 medium frozen banana
1 6 oz. Yoplait light fat free yogurt (strawberry today)
1 tsp honey
1 TB orange juice concentrate
1/2 cup 1% milk
1 cup water
1 cup ice

BLEND

I figure this one made four 6 oz. servings and if you care about WW points one serving was 1 point or the whole blender full of green goodness comes in at 5 points. I don't know if it would be a good idea to drink the whole batch at once because Brett also calls this concoction, "The Regulator." I know...TMI

I think this one was a little too sweet. Tomorrow I'm going to skip the orange juice concentrate and maybe the honey too because it didn't need it, and I'm going to add blueberries.

A Momversation

Me: "Colby, what do you want in your lunch besides this turkey sandwich? (went to the cupboard) Do you want some of these fruit snacks?"

Colby: "Mom. Do you know what a dork I would look like if I showed up at lunch with Finding Nemo fruit snacks--come on."

Me: "Enough said."
